About

Rakunan High School has its root in the private school "Shugei shuchi-in, which was founded in 829 by Kūkai , also known posthumously as Kōbō-Daishi (The Grand Master Who propagated the
Buddhist Teaching "Shingon") and first opened to all regardless of its social rank. Although the school was closed shortly after Kūkai's death, its founder's sprit was handed down over a long history, and the present Rakunan high school was established in 1962 in the ground of Toji. Toji is a temple Kūkai used to commission and has been designated as part of the "Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto" World Heritage Sites. It is situated in the south district of Kyoto, approximately 15 minutes walk from Kyoto JR station.

The Buddhism doctrine has still been much alive in our school, for example, in our school precepts 'Respect yourself', 'Pursue the truth', and 'Dedicate yourself to the society.' Rakunan High School has also received good reputation by its high academic and sports achievement.

Our current students are approximately 1,500 including the students of attached junior high school.  It used to be a boys school and has become coeducational in 2006.

This is our first time to participate in Global Enterprise Challenge and our team is consisted of members of ESS (English Speaking Society) Club.
