Dr Alfred Henrico
Alfred started his career in the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) where he worked as an intelligence officer. After eight years in the SANDF he pursued his interest for business in the private sector and joined INDCON, a South African based company, as a business consultant where he worked with more than 200 small and medium manufacturing enterprises.
During his time as a business consultant he completed a higher education diploma and made a career change after three years to become a high school teacher, teaching mathematics, business management, accounting and entrepreneurship. After two years as a teacher he received a position as lecturer at the Northwest University (NWU) in South Africa. At the NWU he has lectured and developed various undergraduate courses which include business management, marketing, entrepreneurship, business management didactics, creative teaching practices, strategic management, etc.
Alfred also held various leadership positions at the NWU since his appointment in 2003. He was appointed the head of the Economics and Management Sciences Department for teacher training in 2004 and the program leader for the Further Education and Training band in 2006. In 2008 he was appointed the head of the Department Teacher and Lecturer Training at the NWU’s Potchefstroom Campus. At the moment Alfred is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences and lectures entrepreneurship to undergraduate students.
Alfred’s research interests are in training and development as well as teaching and learning in higher education.
Apart from a teaching qualification he also holds a BCOM honours degree in management, a Masters degree in Educational Management and a PHD in Teaching and Learning.
Alfred has been married to Laurie-May for 10 years. They have two sons, Ruan (6 years old) and Human (3 years old). Alfred’s interests include the outdoors, sports and reading.
