Particpant profiles

Mark Stewart - An eighteen year old astronaut to be, who likes to know how everything works, which has lead him into the world of engineering and also to have an odd obsession with Professor Brian Cox! Always dressed for the occasion, Mark is ready to lead Scotland into first place along with the rest of his high class team. Prepare for something different!

Paula Glancy - Seventeen year old aspiring doctor & Biology/English enthusiast with a passion for all things Harry Potter. A stranger to eloquence and a true Scot, commonly used words/phrases within her vocabulary include 'pure' and 'aww naww'. This is her first year of participation in the GEC and she intends to use all she has learned from 'The Apprentice' to her advantage!

Ellen Robinson - Often referred to as the "new Ghandi" of contempory society, Ellen seeks to offer her wise knowledge to all in need of guiding through the peaks and troughs of life. Her own idol - David Eric Grohl of the punk/rock quartet 'Foo Fighters' has furthered her knowledge through spiritual rock, melody and the healing powers of the guitar. She is a powerhouse, mean machine soul-soothing sister.

Cuebong Wong - Being given an amazing opportunity to participate, Cuebong is prepared to give everything he has to help the team achieve success. He is an efficient, organised and numerically gifted, well oiled machine. Like a silent star soon to explode, he is ready and raring to go.
P.S. His favourite number is over 9000!

Christopher Doyle - An 18 year old with a passion for science and mathematics, Christopher is determined to achieve everything that is possible. This is his first year of participation in the GEC and he is very privileged to have been given this fantastic opportunity to represent his country. He most definitely is ready to fire on all cylinders and invent unique ideas.

Jan Robertson - Over her seventeen years, Jan has developed three main passions in her life: maths, dancing and Andy Murray, all of which she aims to make use of in the challenge ahead. Often referred to as a “robot” by her friends, she hopes to bring some structure and organisation to the team. Her extensive knowledge of tennis, shuffle ball changes and the Gilmore Girls, will ensure a unique, if not slightly strange approach to the forthcoming task.

Rachael McAughtrie - Having played football for 10 years, Rachael is determined to use her fast thinking, tactical mind to help the team succeed. Her love of all things "quite interesting" means wisdom gained from Stephen Fry will help her and the team conquer any problems faced in the upcoming challenge. With a flare for design and an aptitude for science and maths, Rachael is excited to use all of her skills in her first year of participation in the GEC.

Graham McAughtrie - A strong believer in focus and hard work, Graham is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. With a sublime mathematical and analytical mind he will use both body and brain to get the job done. Having been involved in the Young Enterprise programme, Graham is ready to invent a unique product and have some fun. This is his first year in the GEC programme and he considers this opportunity an honour.

Allsion Ramsey - Allison is a keen musician with a flare for classical music. Her first love is her piano and performing. She is highly intelligent with an outstanding analytical mind. She embraces every challenge and will never admit defeat. "Dymanic and open to every opportunity" is Allsion's ethos! This is Allison's first year in the GEC programme and she feels privileged to be part of the process.

About

Now in its tenth year, with over 1200 alumni, the Scottish Space School seeks to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. The current programme comprises of a week- long residential summer school hosted by the Faculty of Engineering at Strathclyde for 100 high school pupils in their pre-university year from all over Scotland, and is supported by NASA astronauts and engineers.

The top 10 students at summer school are selected for a Learning Journey to Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, in November. The students who went to Houston in 2010, along with others from the summer residential, make up this year’s team.

For the team members and the school, this is their debut into the Global Enterprise Challenge; you can expect to see something interesting and inventive from us.
