Ellie Shanahan - I'm 16 years old. I study maths, English Literature, Spanish and History and in the future I would like to study accountancy or law! In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym and playing netball and tennis. I am extremely excited to participate in this challenge.
Michael Stitfall - I am currently studying for my AS levels in Maths, Physics and Computing. I have an interest in design and how things work. About
St David’s Catholic College enjoys a unique position in educational terms as it's the only Catholic sixth form college in Wales. It was founded by the Archdiocese of Cardiff to be a place where faith is respected and encouraged, a deeply human place where people find understanding and friendship.
We are very proud of our reputation for academic excellence, in 2010 students achieved a 97% pass rate at A' level, with 37% at 'A' grade (including the Welsh Baccalaureate). Student support is a central pillar of the college as confirmed in the 2010 ESTYN Report on the college, in which St David's was praised for its high standards of learning and the achievements of our students. The inspectors commented "the quality of care, support and guidance is outstanding" and noted that "the grades learners achieve on A level courses are frequently outstanding".
Because we're based on one compact campus, near the centre of Cardiff, we're a real community with a very supportive atmosphere. The choice of subjects here is surprisingly large - far more than can be offered at most schools.
It is our hope that this strong academic and caring ethos will inspire students to reach their full potential.
