The National Venues:
Organisers should ensure that the venue should be fit for the purpose, with 24-hour access for the team and if possible ‘sleepover’ arrangements. It should have, as a minimum, e-mail capability and Internet access.
Support:
The team should have access to a facilitator at key stages during the 24-hour period.This facilitator could be drawn from the business community, business support services, or academia.Please ensure that the facilitator is there to support and motivate, not instruct or direct.
Live web-streaming:
Each country will be able to link in to the live web-stream from Sydney which will show the 24 hour competition and the winner’s announcements.
Teams
- Up to ten participants constitute a team
- Participants must be attending High School or College
- Participants should be aged 16 – 19 years
- Ideally the team should possess a broad range of complementary skills and knowledge (science and technology, business, marketing and communication)
Time zones
The world will be split into 3 time zones;
- Asia Pacific - Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Philippines & Singapore
- Europe – Middle East - England, Germany, Norway, Poland, Scotland & Wales
- The Americas - United States
Participants will see the 2008 challenge revealed when the GEC coordinator for their country accesses the GEC website and keys in the access code for their time zone. The GEC launch presentation will be repeated in each time zone and will be time locked into a global clock and only be accessible via a unique code at the nominated time in each time zone.
All national teams will compete within a 24 hour timeframe and start at the same nominated time for their time zone. However any team regardless of where they are on the globe may choose to run in the same time frame as Europe – Middle East, but must advise the Australian Host Coordinator at least two weeks prior to the event to ensure that they are issued with the appropriate access code.
